When you are given guidance for how to tune into different parts of your body and ask questions, and listen to what comes up, you will start to learn that there is a ton of information stored in your body that can be helpful in being more intentional on a day to day basis.
I’m not talking about memories being stored in your hips (although some folks do feel this is true for them). Let me give you a more concrete example:
- close your eyes,
- put one hand one your chest, and
- one hand on your belly
Now, focus your attention on those spots. Then, think about having a conversation with someone you really dislike.
Did you notice anything in your body? In those two spots?
Now, imagine having a conversation with someone you love. Did you notice any sensation in your body? Was it different?
This is a simple example, but it shows how our bodies react to the world around us, how they embody our instincts, our emotions, our preferences and dislikes - if we start to notice the language of our body and learn to listen to what it’s telling us as we move through the day, it can be like a friend whispering in your ear telling you more about yourself - how you feel, what you want, what you dislike, what you need, what you know.
